Steam Trawler 'Shackleton'
Im currently carrying out research into the steam trawler Shackleton, which was wrecked here on Rathlin Island on the 1st March 1930, my grandfather Dougal Cecil and great uncle Bob Cecil were members of the Rathlin Life-Saving Company who successfully rescued all 14 crew members from the Shackleton. This year will mark the 80th anniversary of the rescue, and I'm hoping to organise a display of photos of the trawler Shackleton with some of the original equipment used in the rescue (breeches buoy, rocket lines etc) as well as the last surviving eyewitness to the rescue. If anyone knows of any of the descendants of the crew who were on the Shackleton or has photos of the Shackleton, it would be great to hear from them.
