Good Grief!!!...I sound like I'm possessed with my ranting about various "Navena's"

Anybody know the whereabouts of FD323 ??? last record I can trace is "Decommissioned" in '96 ( After she got beached at Scarborough )

she aint bin scrapped i heard a rumour she was in norway but cannot find any more info......
Good morning,

My uncle was aboard this vessel when she was beached at Scarborough, his name was William McCalpine.

I will see if i can find any information of her since 1996 if i find anything i will let you know.
Hi Hooded Claw
A) There were a number of British trawlers who had their registry transferred abroad in order to fish in Scotlands Moray Firth, which was closed to British registered ships.

B), most of the trawlers registered in Stavanger come from Grimsby. However, what I have been able to see about their first owners, indicates that they were not owned by a single company in Britain. That is however not conclusive, as many british trawler owners maintained many registered companies. (E.g. Alec Black, who flagged a number of his trawlers out to Thorshavn the Faroe Islands, nominal property of a certain Christian Evensen)

C) Was there one, or many owners in Stavanger. Whether this was a genuine attempt by norwegians to start a trawler company, or just pro-forma out-flagging, can be deduced from the local owner.
In comparison, when a certain clerk in Esbjerg, Denmark (G.E. Forum) suddently became a large scale trawler owner, it is easy to deduce that he was fronting for British armateurs.
If many owners, some trawlers could be genuine purchases, and others example of fronting. Similarly, penniless clerks becoming large scale shipowerns = fronting. Well established money men = genuine purchases.
Hi Hooded Claw,

The year 1996 has a great deal of significance, as from 1993 to 2001, these years marked the begining of the end for the fishing industry, an act was instigated "The Fishing Vessels (Decommissioning) Scheme 1996.

In short any owner of a Uk Fishing vessel that met certain criteria, would be paid to scrap his vessel! Additionally in the agreement there were only 2 options on the disposal of the Trawler, either scrapping or donating to a museum.

So it was a condition of payment that the vessel was scrapped prior to payment

Ministers were asked whether they could be sold on for other uses but this was denied and from 1993 to 1996 no trawler was ever "rescued"

The only slimmest of hopes is that the application to decomission was refused, and Navena was sold on, however it is extremely unlikely that such permission was refused.

If the photo of the trawler in Sunderland is the Navena then it all ties in to the scheme.

On a brighter note I will soon have details of where you can obtain a very smart 31 inch (1/50th scale) Model

Regards

across the road

I found a few images of Navena 3, she looks wicked. She was beached at Scarborough. A pity it is. I found images of her being salvaged by crew members, gross. She was stranded by crew members when she sunk. Luckily, all the crew members where safe. She was capsized in ingress of water. All the crew members were safely rescued in a helicopter. I could only collect these details. I would love to know more about the crew members and other stuff.
